Simon’s groundsman career has up til last August only ever seen him responsible for looking after natural soil pitches. So when Simon took on looking after the pitch at Lewes FC he knew he would be expanding his knowledge and with the pitch at Lewes FC being a hybrid sand based pitch, nutrition was going to be a major difference. Very few products that Simon used last season gave him good results and the pitch always looked hungry and the growth was poor.

“Limited resources”

Simon was contacted by Andrew Norman at Agrovista Amenity (COMPO EXPERT exclusive distributor of Floranid Twin fertilisers) and he came down to see Simon to discuss options. Having taken on board Andrew’s input and reviewed the products, Simon decided to try the Floranid Twin Turf BS 20-5-8. Simon has very limited resources when it comes to budgets and work hours so it was important that the product had a good impact on growth, longevity and aesthetics without a huge growth flush. The grass responded really well to the application and within about 5 days Simon noticed a difference and 10 weeks on, despite no further fertiliser applications the grass is still looking greener than at any stage last season and growth is still good and manageable.

Simon’s main concern with the product was the cost, but having now seen what it delivers Simon said “I definitely think it is value for money”. Previously, Simon would have probably been close to a 3rd fertiliser application costing more for the products, but with 1 application of Floranid® Twin Turf BS 20-5-8, Simon has saved time with the application so going forward Simon commented saying “ I will definitely continue to use this product and others in the Floranid® Twin range”.

Floranid Twin Turf BS 20-5-8 contains Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® a beneficial, powerful bacterium micro-organisms that provides the following:

  • Once watered in, Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX®® operates in the rhizosphere. Symbiosis with fine root hairs result in coverage of the entire root.
  • Once established, it physically protects the roots and inhibits the advance of soil borne fungi such as fusarium.
  • Bacillus subtilis, selection E4-CDX® is a unique and effective strain of rhizosphere bacterium. Bacillus subtilis competes with harmful pathogens for space around the roots of the grass plant.
  • Tests also show that Bacillus subtilis gives off a chemical that disorientates nematodes, so they can no longer find the root.
  • This creates a live barrier protecting the whole root that disease can't penetrate. Therefore disease has no opportunities to set infection.
