Münster/Krefeld, September 2025

Feeding the world requires more than just sunshine and rain. It takes knowledge, experience - and support for the soils where our food grows. For decades, fertilizers have helped ensure reliable plant growth and secure yields. But in times of climate change, it is no longer just about efficiency and reliability - it is also about sustainability.

The new Welt der Wunder documentary follows COMPO EXPERT GmbH, a leading manufacturer of specialty fertilizers and biostimulants headquartered in Münster (Germany), with production sites in Krefeld and La Vall d’Uixó (Spain). The company demonstrates how modern fertilizers can be efficient, high-performing - and more climate-friendly.

Sustainability in Production
Through investments in modern technology, renewable energy, and optimized processes, direct greenhouse gas emissions during production have been reduced by more than 60 percent. “We are committed to consistently reducing the carbon footprint of our products – through low carbon raw materials, recycled packaging, and innovative manufacturing methods,” explains André Leise, Head of Central Sourcing at COMPO EXPERT.

At the production site in Krefeld, numerous processes work together precisely. Energy is saved, and waste heat is reused. “This allows us to systematically reduce emissions - from photovoltaic systems to the use of green electricity,” says Natascha Kastner, Deputy Plant Manager.

“With all these measures, we’ve been able to more than halve the carbon footprint of our fertilizers in several instances,” emphasizes Dr. Lukas John, Sustainability Manager.

Research for Tomorrow’s Agriculture
But it is not just production and raw materials that matter. A key factor in sustainability is how products are applied. The application of fertilizers can have negative environmental impacts, such as nitrous oxide emissions or nutrient leaching. COMPO EXPERT offers solutions that significantly reduce these effects, such as the use of inhibitors, slow-release fertilizers, and biostimulants.

Dr. Mauricio Hunsche, Head of Research & Development at COMPO EXPERT, explains: “Through years of intensive research and development, COMPO EXPERT has built a technology portfolio that significantly contributes to making food production more sustainable.”

A Journey, Not a Destination
The documentary shows: sustainable agriculture is a continuous process to which fertilizers contribute significantly. From raw materials to production and application – COMPO EXPERT actively shapes this transition toward sustainability. The agriculture of tomorrow needs solutions that already work today. COMPO EXPERT makes an important contribution – step by step, with technology, responsibility, and a forward looking approach. Information about the company’s sustainability initiatives can be found on the website.

The TV documentary about COMPO EXPERT will premiere on October 9 at 8:00 PM on Welt der Wunder TV. The feature will also be available the same day from 8:15 PM on the Welt der Wunder YouTube channel.
