Eggplant is a demanding crop regarding the soil. It generates a powerful and deep root system which allows you to cover a large volume of soil. The eggplant needs more water than tomato cultivation and requires a lot of nitrogen. However, the contributions of nitrogen must be adapted to the needs of the plant so that no problems occur during flowering and fruit set. It is important to make sufficient contributions and simultaneously balance phosphorus, potassium and magnesium, which is required in smaller quantities than nitrogen or potassium. This is essential during the early stages of eggplant development as it is directly related to the development of the roots. Potassium is, in quantitative terms, the most important nutritional element. The maximum absorption stage of potassium is during the maturation of the eggplant as potassium plays an essential role in fruit quality. Potassium positively affects the taste, increases disease resistance, improves shelf life and transportability. Magnesium is the central element of chlorophyll and a lack reduces growth. Immediate symptoms are the yellowing of the plant. The contribution of fertilizers enriched with micro-elements keeps the plant at an optimum nutritive level and prevents deficiencies.

Aubergine cultivation develops abundant foliage. An optimal fertilization is the basis for high productivity. It requires high amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The phosphorus and potassium must be applied during the early stages. Nitrogen must be fractionated into 3 or 4 applications. The crop is very sensitive to magnesium deficiencies but does not tolerate high calcium contents in the soil. Aubergine can accumulate large amounts of magnesium without showing symptoms of toxicity and it also responds well to applications of boron. Eggplant is very sensitive to water scarcity and B.E.R. (Blossom End Rot), therefore applications of Kamasol^{^®}Aqua every 2-4 weeks at a rate of 2 l/ha as irrigation improver highly improves the crop performance. First stages can be managed with Hakaphos^® Calcidic Plus NPK (14-6-15+15CaO) and at fruit-setting Hakaphos^® Calcidic Plus K (14-5-24+10CaO) should be used.
