Aubergine cultivation develops abundant foliage. An optimal fertilization is the basis for high productivity. It requires high amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The phosphorus and potassium must be applied during the early stages. Nitrogen must be fractionated into 3 or 4 applications. The crop is very sensitive to magnesium deficiencies but does not tolerate high calcium contents in the soil. Aubergine can accumulate large amounts of magnesium without showing symptoms of toxicity and it also responds well to applications of boron. Eggplant is very sensitive to water scarcity and B.E.R. (Blossom End Rot), therefore applications of Kamasol® Aqua every 2-4 weeks at a rate of 2 l/ha as irrigation improver highly improves the crop performance. First stages can be managed with Hakaphos® Calcidic Plus NPK (14-6-15+15CaO) and at fruit-setting Calcidic Plus K (14-5-24+10CaO) should be used.
