Basic Information

Nitrogen and potassium are two nutrients that are highly demanded by the coffee tree. Adequate nitrogen fertilization is essential for both the structural growth of the plant (leaves, stem, branches and roots), as well as abundant flowering and fruiting. Potassium, on the other hand, plays an important role in photosynthesis, respiration and the circulation of sap, and the demand increases in older plants. An adequate supply helps to improve the resistance of the coffee tree against dry periods, its importance even extends to the resistance against cold, and it enhances the photosynthetic efficiency, which results in a higher concentration of solutes in the plant. As for phosphorus, it is required less in quantity than nitrogen and potassium in the adult phase of the plant. However, during formation phase, when it is active in the structuring of roots and wood, it is very important to include phosphorus in the fertilization during planting. It is also an important nutrient for the flowering of the coffee tree, along with magnesium and calcium.The micronutrients iron, manganese, zinc, copper and boron are also key elements in the coffee crop.

Detailed Description

A recommended application is the granulated NovaTec^® line, which ensures a better availability of nitrogen in combination with potassium, but free from chlorine. For fertigated areas, NovaTec^® Solub and Hakaphos^® lines are used for an adequate and continuous supply of macronutrients. Also recommended is the application of Calcium via fertigation using HydroSpeed^® CaB Max as well as foliar applications with the Basfoliar^® line, to enhance plant growth, quality and productivity. Applications with chelated micronutrients, such as Fetrilon^® Combi, ensure an adequate supply with good compatibility and fast absorption. For nurseries and coffee seedling production, the application of the Basacote^® Mini is recommended, to achieve healthier, nourished and balanced seedlings.
