Asparagus is a perennial plant and its production cycle depends on the variety, the environmental conditions, and the cultivation practices. The crop can reach a lifetime of up to 12 years. A constantly sufficient nutrient supply is the basis for a successful yield and good quality in asparagus cultivation. In the early stages after plantation the crop is very sensitive to nutrient deficiencies, particularly to the lack of nitrogen. The security of the nitrogen supply is significantly increased through the use of ammonium-stabilized fertilizers like NovaTec^® and, in combination with the proportionate ammonium nutrition, leads to a significant yield and quality effect compared to conventional fertilization. The Blaukorn^® and NovaTec^®product line consists of granulated special mineral fertilizers with a wide range of applications for various situations (e.g. content of nutrients in the soil). The choice of fertilizer formulation is best made after soil analysis. High quantities of potassium support a healthy growth and improve the quality parameters. Granular products with an emphasis on potassium like NovaTec^® Classic 12-8-16 or NovaTec^® Premium 15-3-20 are under normal conditions the best choice for quality nutrition. It is also very important to supply good reserves for the roots and rhizomes because the yield of the following year strongly depends on these.
