Basic Information

Peanuts (annual herb crops) are suitable for sandy soils (pH 6,5-5) in a warm climate, long growing season and moderate rainfall.
Planting density: 120000–150000/ha
(the ridge spacing is 50 cm, and the hole spacing is 13-17 cm).Three times of intertillage and weeding are carried out at seedling stage, cluster stage and flowering stage. Half a month after flowering, the soil should not be too thick: 3 cm are appropriate. Yield: 6000-7500 kg/ha.
Peanuts have nodules, which help fix nitrogen in the air. This can supply up to two-thirds of the nitrogen needs of the crop for its entire growth period.

Detailed Description

The peanut is one of the crops that can partially supply its own nitrogen needs; therefore, it is considered to be insensitive to fertilization. Fertilization is generally beneficial in unfertilized soils, to which 40 kg of nitrogen can be added, in addition to 60 kg of phosphorus. The fertilizer can be applied at the same time as sowing or 20-25 days later.
Peanuts also demand calcium and the trace elements molybdenum and boron. Peanuts have a strong ability of absorbing fertilizer. However, the root system, the needles, young fruits and leaves also absorb the nutrients directly. Peanuts need different amounts of fertilizer in different growth stages.
The amount of nutrients needed at seedling stage is lower, and the amount of N, P and K absorbed only accounts for 5-10 % of the total amount absorbed during the whole life. The amount of nutrients absorbed during the flowering stage increase sharply, and the absorption of nitrogen accountes for 17 %, phosphorus for 22,6 % and potassium for 22,3 % of the total absorption during the whole life.
The podding stage is the most vigorous period for the vegetative and reproductive growth of the peanut. There are a large number of pods formed, and it is also the period in which the most nutrients are absobed. The absorption of nitrogen accounts for 42 % of the total absorption during the whole life, phosphorus accounts for 46 %, and potassium accounts for 60 %. The ability to absorb nutrients gradually decreases in the mature stage of full fruit, the absorption of nitrogen accountes for 28 % of the total life, phosphorus accountes for 22 %, and potassium accountes for 7 %.
